Corporate Social Responsibility in Australia & NZ
At Wrigley, environmental and social responsibility has always been a core part of our business philosophy. We believe that safeguarding the environment is an ongoing process. We are committed to practicing responsible environmental management in our decision-making, in the performance of our jobs, and as responsible citizens in our communities.
That’s why we began our partnership with the environmental organisation Keep Australia Beautiful. Throughout Australia we are the proud sponsors of school environmental education programs developed to educate and engage children from an early age in caring for the environment.
These programs have reached over 2,600 schools around Australia and involved over 940,000 students to date. They include:
Waste Watchers NSW – a Keep Australia Beautiful NSW initiative
Every day more than 120 students in NSW enjoy fun, hands on sessions that teach about caring for the environment, and how they can take simple measures to protect and conserve it. Find out more.
Wrigley also sponsors NSW Sustainable Cities Awards Dinner. NSW Sustainable Cities is the leading environmental and community awards program for NSW urban communities. Find out more.
Green and Healthy Schools – an initiative of Keep Australia Beautiful, QLD
Wrigley is proud to be associated with Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland; the longest standing community based environmental organisation in the state. One of many Keep Australia Beautiful Queensland initiatives is the Green and Healthy Schools program, a program providing resources to teachers and students to encourage schools to implement and/or improve environmental and sustainability initiatives within the school community. As part of our support, The Wrigley Company Litter Prevention Award recognises outstanding accomplishment in litter prevention, management and education. Find out more.
Keep South Australia Beautiful
In 2004, The Wrigley Company funded innovative litter research in partnership with Keep South Australia Beautiful (KESAB) and Flinders University, and implimented an effective adverstising campaign with the aim of effecting behavioural change in citizens. In conjunction with KESAB, Wrigley developed ‘Litter Less’, an integrated educational resource for teachers and students in Middle Years (6-9) which was released in mid 2009. The program provides schools with action plans and support materials on litter prevention strategies and encourages schools to include litter education in the curriculum. Find out more.
Keep Australia Beautiful – Northern Territory
The success of the ‘Litter Less’ program in South Australian schools saw this program released in Northern Territory late 2009.
Keep Australia Beautiful – Tasmania
In conjunction with KESAB, plans are currently underway to release the ‘Litter Less’ program in Tasmanian schools early 2010.
Waste Wise Schools Program, WA – an initiative of the WA Department of Environment & Conservation
The Waste Wise Schools Program (WWSP) aims to educate schools and their communities about waste avoidance, and helps schools to minimise their waste while fostering environmentally sustainable behaviours. Find out more.
Keep New Zealand Beautiful
Given the success of the programs in Australia, we are currently working with Keep New Zealand Beautiful to identify opportunities to deliver similar environmental education programs throughout New Zealand. Find out more.

Corporate Donations
As well as helping schools across the county by sponsoring environmental awareness programs, Wrigley assists local communities through regular annual corporate donations to organisations like Hornsby Hospital and the Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Rural Fire Service.

A Commitment to the Community
Community involvement projects are an essential part of the way we go about our business. Around the globe, Wrigley associates respond to community needs through their collective and individual efforts. Locally these projects span everything from working with local schools to providing opportunities for students to learn about manufacturing operations and conservation principles to working with community development organisations.
Recognising access to education is important around the world, Wrigley associates have worked together for a number of years with community development organisations in countries such as Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands to provide refurbished computer equipment from Wrigley sites.
