Since their introduction in 1912, Life Savers has become an iconic American brand across non-chocolate candy and mints due to their great tasting flavors and unique candy-with-the-hole shape. Over 40 flavors of Life Savers have been created since the original Pep-O-Mint® was launched.

Life Savers was a subsidiary of Kraft Foods before being purchased by Wrigley in 2004. In recent years, the brand has expanded to include Life Savers Gummies®.

History

  • 1912 Life Savers are introduced in the original Pep-O-Mint flavor. Chocolate maker Clarence Crane was searching for a sweet treat that would withstand the summer heat better than chocolate. To differentiate his mints from other
  •   square, pillow-shaped products, Clarence punched a hole in the middle of his mints. Since the mints looked like mini life preservers, he called them Life Savers. Since its introduction, more than 40 flavors of Life Savers have been created.
  • 1918 Life Savers Wint-O-Green mints are launched.
  • 1935 The 5-flavor roll pack is introduced.
  • 2000 Life Savers is purchased by Kraft Foods.
  • 2003 Life Savers announces plans to alter the flavors found in the classic 5-flavor roll. The new Five Flavor roll now contains cherry, pineapple, raspberry, watermelon and orange.
  • 2004 Life Savers is purchased by the Wm. Wrigley Company Jr. Company.
  • 2007 Wrigley introduces Life Savers Fruit Tarts®, sugar-free and mouth-watering hard candy made of fruit and sour sensations in a pop-top 1.5 oz. tin.
  • 2008 Wrigley introduces two new Life Savers mints flavors, Strawberry Apple and Cherry Lemonade, and a new Gummies flavor, Island Fruits.
  • 2009 Wrigley introduces Life Savers® Hawaiian Fruits™ hard candy, available in five delicious and fruity flavors: Mango Melon, Pineapple, Pina Colada, Tropical Punch and Banana.
  • 2009 Debuting in October 2009, Sweet Strings 'N Sour Rings offers a mix of playful squiggle shapes, classic "ring with a hole" shapes and a combination of sweet and sour flavors in each bag, including Sweet Cherry, Sweet Raspberry, Sour Fruit Punch and Sour Green Apple.
