Research has shown that chewing gum can  help to increase people's ability to retain and recall information.

The act of chewing gum increases blood flow to the brain, and some believe this may help supply additional oxygen to the brain. The most authoritative research into the positive effects of chewing gum on concentration and recall is reported in a joint study by the University of Northumbria in Newcastle and the Cognitive Research.

Most recently, a study of school children taking exams found that those chewing achieved notably higher results in a set of maths examinations than those who did not chew.
