We began an aggressive program several years ago in some of our factories to look at further waste reduction and energy efficiency opportunities. Where we can, we are reducing packaging and/or using recycled materials. The date code on Lifesavers follows a day/month/year format.
Example: 06APR 2006 Expires April 6, 2006

Are your products Kosher?
While the products we sell in the U.S. are not currently certified kosher, we take great strides to ensure products are kosher and kosher certified in geographies with dietary restrictions. For example, all Wrigley products sold in Israel are kosher certified.
What is the sugar content in your gum?
Each stick of our sugared brands, such as Wrigley's Spearmint, Doublemint, Winterfresh and Freedent gum, contains about a 1/2-teaspoon of sugar. You might be interested to know that sugar not only sweetens our gum but also adds bulk to the product to help give it a pleasant texture.
What is the white powder substance on your gum?
All Wrigley gums are brushed with a rolling powder before they are encased in the foil wrappers that keep them fresh. On our sugared brands a granulated sugar, which has the appearance of confectionary sugar, is used. On our sugarfree brands a dusting of sugar substitute is used. The amount of the powder used may vary and depends on the handling of the operator. In general, our Extra® brand gums have more rolling powder brushed on them than other brands.
How would I remove gum from my clothing?
For washable clothes, you might first try scraping off any excess gum with a dull knife and then rubbing the area with ice until the remaining gum rolls off into a ball. Another method is to seal the dry garment in a plastic bag and place it in your freezer. After the garment is frozen, remove and gently scrape off the gum with a dull knife.
There are also natural solvents extracted from citrus peels which are environmentally safe and work quite well in removing chewing gum from various surfaces, including cloth. As a matter of policy, we don't give out specific brands names, but you can find these citrus-based solvents in food and drugstores, as well as health food stores.
While there are no "guaranteed methods" for gum removal, please check the National Association of Chewing Gum Manufacturers at www.nacgm.org for more information. They have a section on their web site called "Tips for Getting Unstuck". You may also contact them at:

Is it OK for my dog to chew/eat sugarfree gum?
Some of our chewing gums contain xylitol, which is a safe, even beneficial, additive which has been used in food, confectionery and other products - like toothpaste - as a sweetener and flavor enhancer for over 30 years and has been widely approved by regulatory authorities all over the world.
Although chewing gum products are not intended for use by dogs, cats or other pets, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has reported that xylitol may be toxic for dogs.
In fact, in addition to food products containing xylitol, the AVMA recommends that many foods that are perfectly safe for humans be kept away from pets because of potential harm - including coffee grounds, grapes/raisins, chocolate, onions, yeast, dough, tea, macadamia nuts, alcohol, fatty foods, salt, avocadoes and garlic. For more information, please go to avma.org.
